(Not to mention how easy it would be to refresh email every minute, waiting for a response!) It is comforting and encouraging to know that even someone like you, with your amazing "wins", still feels the same. Thanks for your encouragement to keep the "game on."Ann Cinzarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12592865901934879244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5371028182709754366.post-29541747517290532982014-11-20T12:54:38.522-05:002014-11-20T12:54:38.522-05:00Nina - Luck! My favorite: "This came so incredibly close to being chosen..." Ugh. Was it due to them taking too long to respond to you or wanting to take those written pieces to other publishers?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08916998682208775900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5371028182709754366.post-13458467927840747082014-11-19T20:53:02.991-05:002014-11-19T20:53:02.991-05:00Thanks for this, Lisa. I keep similar stats with my submission of manuscripts to agents, and I've had to count victories in full manuscript requests and very kind words of encouragement from agents leading to (ever increasing) offers to read future work. This I've discovered is the "name of the game," with victories, setbacks, ties, and advances, etc. I too am awaiting my fate... two steps foward, one step back, marching toward lasting representation. Great post and makes me want to return to submitting shorter pieces too!Julia Munroe Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09798422149542791454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5371028182709754366.post-68636313256642673822014-11-19T18:49:42.903-05:002014-11-19T18:49:42.903-05:00I have found this to be very true. Everything you ...I have found this to be very true. Everything you said here! People often "marvel" at my "luck." And it's not luck-- I've had TONS of rejections. WAY more than acceptances. I don't think it goes any other way for anyone.

Congrats on that hard-earned most recent YES! Also loved your line about "my own idiosyncratic, individual system of ranking." I have one, too, that I could not explain to anyone including to myself. Sometimes the name of a magazine or site alone makes me NOT want to submit. I love the idea of someone else meeting us halfway, beautifully stated.

@fullsouldahead - thank you, and yes, many times submitting feels like a tedious part time job; I can only stand it in doses, or I find myself getting negative about the process. So, on a Saturday morning twice a month, I spend an hour or two on it, then that's it.

Thanks both for reading and commenting!Lisa Romeohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01522310766694189857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5371028182709754366.post-39088570262310424342014-11-18T17:16:22.446-05:002014-11-18T17:16:22.446-05:00This post reminds me that submitting is a huge job...This post reminds me that submitting is a huge job in and of itself, and helps me feel better about not doing more of it given the daily challenges that come with my family.

Thanks for your honesty.
